Music Video and Website
Music Video
My music video will include media language to create a pop video which will have an obvious impression of fun and entertainment. This language will help me appeal to the target demographic of fun-loving 16-25-year-old mainstreamers, believers and more which will hopefully show that my music video is fun and entertaining. The actors and actresses I use in the video will also perform in a way which is pleasing to the brief and to promote and plug the song. I will build a mise en scene which is positive and bright to mirror the ethos of the band and upkeep the fun-loving attitude of the artist. My performers will be dressed brightly, in stylish and modern clothing and the focus of my mise en scene will be the fun of youth and romance too to really appeal to my audience. I will attempt to include some intertextual references within my video like links to other popular artists like Logic or KYLE, and possibly some pop-culture references (links to popular artist's, TV shows or games). These pop culture references would be my artist will dress similarly to Logic, wearing the same glasses and similar dress sense, the female love interests will be wearing band and artist T-shirts to reflect the artists admiration of said artist and respect towards them, some dance moves used in the video will link to popular video game Fortnite, to appeal to the younger side of the audience with dance moves like 'best mates' and 'the hype' etc. These references will allow the audience to notice fun elements and links to other forms of media products allowing there to be more than one layer of enjoyment inside the video. I think the theme of my video reminds people aged with in the demographic that school and work shouldn’t always be at the forefront of life, they should take a break and dance which I would hope has a positive effect on the audience. The use of quite indistinct areas creates a form relatability in my video in that you don’t have to have money or live in a nice place to have fun, it could happen to anyone. I will obviously use suitable codes and conventions to portray this vision. The video will both be performance and narrative in a pretty even ratio, the narrative will consist of two young adults (a boy and a girl, which would be the two different forms of representation in the video, in addition the two characters have different financial backgrounds, so clothing and general looks will be different.) who have stress in their lives and the girl will lead the boy to a happier life and getting him to forget his stress and dance! As well as the dancing and the discovery of a stress free life the girl will lead the boy instead of a male taking lead, this will be my idea of an anti stereotype, instead of a man taking charge of a situation the girl will take the lead, which will lead to the small element of romance between the two characters as well  an additional anti stereotype I am including is that the lead male will be shy and nervous, not confident and loud. It will also be edited to the beat of the song, the upbeat vibe of the song will be shown through bright lighting, visual performance and lip-synching. I plan to involve both male and female genders which shows focus on the whole target audience and portraying the message to have fun and enjoy life as it comes, make the best of what you’ve got and live life to the fullest. Also, to make my video stand out and be different, I plan to use flashbacks in my music video to make it more captivating and interesting to watch, so the viewer will be watching in the present when the couple are having fun and dancing but it will occasionally cut back to the boring life they had prior to dancing, in addition there will be cuts to the artist performing too.
Website
For my band/artists website I will follow all conventions and language codes of web design, this would include the band/artist logos, the record labels logos as well as a clear and easy to use menu bar located in an obvious place in the site, which will hopefully take my fun-loving audience on a journey around my site that they will never want to leave. My menu bar, located at the top of the sight, will contain the tabs: ‘store’, ‘tour’, ‘bio’, ‘news’ and ‘videos’, at the bottom of each page on the site will be links to the band/artists social media alongside the record labels social media too. The use of social media will create a sense of interactivity within the site and between the band/artist and their audience, it is my belief that this is what an audience aged 16-25 would deem acceptable of a musician’s website. The use of a ‘store’ tab within my site would be an industry requirement from Sony Music because it gives users the opportunity to buy merchandise, tickets etc. which would create a separate source of profit for the band which is a positive for Sony. I would also like form my website to have an updating bio, which gives information on the band and their backstory as well as updates of what they’re doing, this tab could be located on the menu bar like the other pages of the site. I will obviously include links the band/singers videos and possibly a behind the scene video where the band can be seen having fun and making them relatable to their audience. If my band/artist was actually real the site would be updating constantly to provide progress on the band/artists growth to their audience with interviews, tour dates and new merchandise releases. The layout and UI of my website must always remain captivating and interesting to the audience as well as informative, so the use of images of the band/singer will be frequent and logos to keep up the sense of unity with the band and the record label, these images could be marketable, having members wearing merchandise or holding their new record/single etc. These images would change with updating music so the site is never outdated or old, all of these images will be original and will be placed in the suitable area so store images will be promoting merchandise and songs, where as in the bio images will be more candid and natural, possibly taken from the mini-documentary (about the music videos production) and the music video. The links to the bio and store will be working and will allow users to travel from page to page.
Links
An emerging band/artist needs a consistent and professional branding image spread over all different media platforms which umbrellas all of their audience so an identity can be continuous and not alter across platforms. An obvious and easy way of doing this is always using the same band images and logos to create a synergy for the band/artist. I am also planning to use professional techniques to link both the website and the music video so the demographic will be directed to the music video on the website and the music video will have links in the description to the site and the band/artists social media. As I have already stated the website will contain exclusive content which will strengthen the connection across the band/singers media platforms, the behind the scenes content will obviously refer to the music video which will let me build a very strong intertextual bond with the band/artists media presence. I plan to include additional audio visual content on the website as well as the video itself, this extra content will be a mini-documentary with talking heads (including the, director, artist, actors etc.) as well as behind the scenes footage of the music video being filmed. There will also be discussions of the future of the artist alongside other topical content for the band.  I plan for this documentary to be roughly 3-5 minutes long and will be used to give the fans an insight into what life is like being a music artist, it will also help the artist look down to earth and humble and make them more relatable to the audience promoting them in a positive way.
