Locations:
Boys house - The boys house is an average looking house and it contrasts with the girls house that it isn't as modern and doesn't look as if it has as much money in it, showing the difference between the two teenagers. It shows that the boy has less money and is not as well off as the girl but how in the long run it doesn't matter when it comes to fun money doesn't matter.
Boys room - It looks like an average boys room, messy filled with boyish things like skateboards, shoes etc, reflecting the boys interests and his desire to have more than he does, wanting to escape his average lifestyle (relatively small)
Girls house - Very high end middle class, modern and shows off wealth, juxtaposing the boys house and once again highlighting the difference in wealth and opportunity between the kids. But it also shows that even though the girl has money, her and the boy are still in the same boat.
Girls room - Not a stereotypical girls room, it isn't pink and girly, it is quite spacious but doesn't have a lot in reflecting the girls emptiness and filled with school work depicting her stress and desire to escape her lifestyle too.
Field (separate areas for singer and actors to be in) - Representing the openness of life and the possibility for anything, also using a non descript area like a field allows a viewer to associate with the video and see that everyone has stress but anyone can get rid of it.
Street/Alleyway (separate areas for singer and actors to be in) - Representing the restrictions of life and the constriction of the world, also using a non descript area like a random street allows a viewer to associate with the video and see that everyone has stress but anyone can get rid of it.
Cast:
Charlie Dennis (Singer/Boy) - I have chosen to cast myself in these roles because I am an actor with roughly 6 years of experience behind me, this experience and range of roles I have performed in makes it easy for me to fit into a role and make it what the director wants. Myself and Miss Goodwin are also of similar heights making framing and shooting us both easy to do. I would also consider myself as an attractive young man which makes me easy to market and appealing to a mass audience and associate with a young audience. I do also have some experience in dancing which will allow me to be easily choreographed and directed by Miss Goodwin. Using my skill and experience will also allow me to (alongside costume) to clearly show the difference between the two roles I will be playing make the narrative easy to follow and not confusing.
Emily Goodwin (Girl) - I have chosen this actress because she is a drama student and plans to take a career in the performing arts, already with many years of experience behind her. This experience and skill will allow Miss Goodwin to easily perform as I intend, making filming and production easier and more efficient because her skill should lessen the need for multiple takes. She is also a physically attractive actress which is always appealing to an audience, her youth makes her easy to associate with which allows the audience to get an even more in-depth experience when viewing the video. Miss Goodwin is also a qualified and well rehearsed dancer with years of experience under her belt allowing her to help choreograph movements and dancing within the video.
Miss Goodwin and I also have a great chemistry working together because we have performed together on a few occasions which will allow shooting and production to be easy because we are used to working in a professional environment so we both know the importance of time saving and minimal takes.
Below are the model release forms for myself and miss Goodwin.

1. The beginning will be relatively slow paced
cutting and establishing locations and characters, the singer will be dresses
brightly whereas actors won’t be when they are having a bad time but in
flash-forwards (which can be noticed by a different lighting filter (brighter
and more vibrant)) the actors will be brightly dressed and look more upbeat.
There needs to be establishing shots of the locations (boy and girl houses)
and close ups of the singer so the viewer knows what they look like, also
highlighting his good mood in comparison to the actors who will be coming.

From 0:00 – 0:20
‘Don’t you dare look back
Just keep your eyes on me
I said you’re holding back
She said shut up and dance
with me
This woman is my destiny
Shut up and dance with me’

2. The video will be edited to the beat of the
song in line with the bassline being played showing off the stressed boy and
girl both dressed glumly. The girl will be dre3ssed anti-stereotypically to
show that she isn’t a normal girl (highlighting the difference between the
two characters) There will be many shots of the boy being stressed doing work
like POV and over shoulder shots to show the students stress and hardship.
Each note change on the bassline the shot will change to show that it is a
fast paced pop video and to keep the viewer entertained but still reflects
the negative mood. The girl will be in the same boat, I want to use a POV
shot of the girl writing some of the lyrics of the song, the shots of the
girl will show her to be in a similar mood to the boy.

From 0:20 – 0:41
‘We were victims of the night
A chemical physical
kryptonite
Helpless to the bass and the fading light
We were bound to be together
Bound to be together’

3. This is where to song reaches its first
peak of being upbeat and happy, it will be a flash-forward to the couple
looking happy and dressed similarly to the singer, I want to use a shot of a
radio being turned up, and extreme close up of a hand being grabbed to the
beat of the song and a shot of the couple dancing in the street, an homage to
David Bowie, there could possibly be a costume based nod to him also. There
will also be a close up of the couple almost about to kiss, showing their
romantic growth and progress within the narrative.

From 0:41 – 1:05
‘She took my arm
I
We took the floor and
she said’

4. Here I want to include a pan up of the
girl, really extenuating the fact that she isn’t ‘normal’, I want to include
some comical moments too, like the girl winking at the camera to show that
modern day music isn’t all serious and there is still an element of
‘cheesiness’ in the music industry like the 80s and 90s, similar to the
Austin Powers films. I also want the pan up to jump in moments to keep the
audience captivated and to keep the upbeat pace and rhythm of the song.
|
From 1:05 – 1:25
‘A backless dress and some
beat up sneaks
My discotech Juliet teenage
dream
I felt it in my chest when
she looked at me
I know we were bound to be
together
Bound to be together
Bound to be together’

5. Still around the peak of happiness in the
video, I want to maintain fast paced editing and unconventional stylistic
approaches, like when the lyric ‘grabbed my arm’ is on I want the singer to
be pulled out of frame of one shot and into frame of another in a different
location which will be entertaining and comical to watch. The couple will
still be dancing reflecting their positive outlook on life and the girl will
still be taking charge and leading the dancing, still subverting the
stereotype.
|
From 1:25 – 1:49
‘She took my arm
I don’t know how it happened
We took the floor and she
said
Don’t you dare look back
Just keep your eyes on me
I said you’re holding back
She said shut up and dance
with me
This woman is my destiny
She said oooo shut up and
dance with me
Come on girl!!’

6. This is now reaching the peak of the boy
and girls romantic relationship, they are dancing and falling in love, there
is going to be multiple identically framed close ups of them moving into kiss
but cutting away before they do. This will be lit brightly to reflect the
happiness of the couple and that they have thrown all their troubles away.

7. This segment is mainly performance, after
the lyric ‘deep in her eyes’ if followed by a clap I want a quick cut extreme
close up of the female actors eyes, I also want to use a high angle when the
singer says ‘my last chance’ to almost signal as if he is begging for the
couple to kiss and to be happy, to hopefully mirror the desperation of the
rest of the audience, still brightly dressed and lit because the vibe is the
same.
|
From 2:04 – 2:19
‘Deep in her eyes I think I
see a future
I realise this is my last
chance
She took my arm
I don’t know how it happened
We took the floor and she
said’

8. This downbeat segment will still be cut to
the beat of the song but it won’t be as brightly lit (or clothed) as the
previous scenes because it’s a flash back when the boy and the girl are
working and stressed, every beat will have a different shot in it, and each
shot will be doubled for both the boy and the girl, framed in exactly and
same way.

From 2:19 – 2:25

9. The editing begins slow with a wide angle
of the girl working and the boy coming up behind her, the mood is still relatively
low, there will be a POV of the boy as the girl turns round and says ‘Shut up
and dance’ she will throw paper at the camera to create a white screen which
will then allow a transition from the dark stress filled working environment
to the fun and bright ending of the song. I also want a romantic spinning
shot of the couple and POV shots as they each spin, both smiling and bright
to reflect the upbeat mood. The song will finish with the boy gaining
confidence to kiss the girl he loves and so he pulls her close and does so.
|
From 2:25 – 3:05 (including
fade out)
‘Don’t you dare look back
Just keep your eyes on me
I said you’re holding back
She said shut up and dance
with me
This woman is my destiny
She said oooo shut up and
dance!
Don’t you dare look back
Just keep your eyes on me
I said you’re holding back
She said shut up and dance
with me
This woman is my destiny
She said oooo shut up and
dance with me
Oooo shut up and dance with
